<description_plain>André is best known by his graffiti-artist alter ego, Mr. A, and for the "Love Graffiti" project that earned him international notoriety in which he was commissioned by romantics the world over to create personalized tags for their loved ones. The lucky recipient's names were sprayed onto a surface close to their home in André's trademark fluorescent pop colors.

Throughout February Colette is hosting an exhibition of sketches and doodles pulled from his personal notebooks that he has amassed over the years, showcasing the artist’s love for '60s psychedelia and of the comic books he read as a kid. In this special exhibition, André continues to spread his messages of love with thirty original drawings and limited-edition prints.</description_plain>

<description_plain>Vampire Weekend is the kind of rock music that forms when you scoop up preppy trust-fund babies who know how to put together a rhyme and dump them in New York City. Well, not really, but what kind of rock band wears white tennis sweaters and cable-knit scarves?

These four lads, apparently: buzzy Vampire Weekend met at Columbia University and hit the indie rock scene after graduating in 2007. We kind of wish they had stayed there; their self-titled debut last January proved a talent for catchy Afro-pop ditties (like A-Punk), but lead singer Ezra Koenig's two-man college rapper group L'Homme Run was funnier.</description_plain>

<description_plain>The new concept store, Masomenos, is the brainchild of designers Joan Costes and Adrien de Montblanc, two childhood friends. The boutique, while clearly an in-the-know spot, has a very different vibe from the more traditional hip spots in Paris, most notably its ability to blend vintage and rare items without an aggressive sales-based attitude.

A concept store is a strange idea in itself, but the general concept at Masomenos seems to be limited editions. From vintage issues of Playboy to fairy-tale inspired jewelry to a collaboration with cashmere enthusiastic Lucien Pellat-Finet, the goods here draw in the likes of Kanye West and Pharrell Williams.

As the owners are working hard on the concept store trademark, just look towards the entrance for a key to their style; the sticker on the door—"Open sometimes, and on appointment"—says it all.</description_plain>

<description_plain>Gianvitto Rossi perfected his craft for over 20 years under the tutelage of one of Italy’s most prominent shoe designers: his father Sergio Rossi. In 2007 he launched his own collection of women’s shoes and handbags, opting for a more feminine and elegant approach. Rossi is very attentive to materials and proportions in order to give his designs maximum comfort. This translates into shoes that are actually comfortable to wear—day or night—without sacrificing style.

Women who live and die for wearing excessively high stilettos, will be thrilled about Rossi’s Carbon collection, which uses the same carbon fibers developed for aerospace technology and racing cars. The thin silver heel comes in 50 or 100 grams depending on the style of shoe. Science and measurements aside, the most important thing to know is they are unbelievably light-weight and amazingly strong. No heel snapping here.

Modern design and technology was also extended to the lavish boutique space, designed by Studio Urquiola. The space features display panels in micro perforated burnished metal, retro lacquered glass panels, steel tables, a large velvet sofa and chairs, and herringbone parquet floors covered with a tone-on-tone silk rug in shades of pink—the main color throughout the space.</description_plain>

<description_plain>Those familiar with its eponymous brand of lounge mixes need no introduction to the ambiance of cultivated chic at Hôtel Costes. Even its ubiquitous presence at '90s DJ parties can't shake its cool: intimate rooms blend aristocratic decadence like Napoleon III furnishings with the modern trend of white linen sheets and cutting-edge technology. Downstairs, the restaurant/bar brims with the usual suspects of trendsetters leisurely splayed over lounge chairs and the regal leafy courtyard.

The Costes brothers joined forces with designer and architect Jacque Garcia to construct the space in 1991, with one rule of thumb: "All things excess." Following suit, the splendid pool flaunts an underwater soundsystem, shipfuls of stucco, glass and marble grace the walls and the average price for a stay hovers around 500 Euros-plus.

A younger, less-popular sister location is hidden in the 16th Arrondissement.</description_plain>

<description_plain>There are not enough superlatives to describe the experience of sipping chocolate chaud at Café Angelina. Perched on your Louis Seize-style chair, you pick up the tiny pitcher (pinky in the air) and pour. Dense, silky, and fragrant, their signature African chocolate and fresh crème make the ideal blend: rich and sweet, without being saccharine. Sip, swallow, and then fall into a near opiate stupor. It’s only then that you can properly take in the décor. With gilded boiserie, towering mirrors and impeccably dressed grandes dames, you’ll feel like you died and went to the Belle Epoque.

Directly across from Tuilleries, Angelina makes an excellent afternoon stop before or after visiting the Louvre. If it seems a bit crowded, remember it’s heavily-touristed for a reason; like the Louvre, it’s a Parisian classic.</description_plain>

<description_plain>Once a private residence for the Vendôme family built by Louis XIV's secretary in 1832, this four-star hotel wears a lavish history but struggles to remain relevant, even after an extensive renovation in 1998.

The individually styled 19 rooms and 10 suites plus Louis XV and Louis XVI flourishes, gilded walls, telephone booth-sized elevator and basement restaurant are more subject to ageism in the new age of loft-like hotels and contemporary 1000-count sheets. Shaky wi-fi connection was not made up for in glamour on our last visit. In short, Hôtel Costes does empirical luxury better.

Hôtel Vendôme does occupy a prime chunk of real estate within short walking distance of the Concorde, Opera and the Louvre. And the view over Vendôme Plaza is astonishingly beautiful, whether it's raining, snowing or casting pure sunlight.</description_plain>

<description_plain>Since 1997, Colette has served Paris with its three tiered, 700 square meters of carefully curated retail space. Following the store's self-titled tagline of "styledesignartfood", mesmerized shoppers gaze across glass cases housing watches, cell phones and other specially embellished collectible gadgets, past tables stacked with limited run art and design books and magazines, by shelves supporting must-have DVD titles, and of course by racks of clothing from designer labels and select street based brands alike. From A.P.C and Alife to Visvim and Yves Saint Laurent, Colette ensures your clothing choices represent the most coveted of current trends.

If it smacks of exclusivity, then it's to be found at Colette―the emporium for apparel and media often relegated (or reserved) to smaller distribution channels. Such unobtainable commodities find a home here amongst a constant crowd intent on bringing these items home. Downstairs, Colette’s water-bar offers a lunch café-like menu of drinks, treats, snacks and sandwiches. Priced a pretty Euro but pleasant all the same.

<description_plain>The fashion world always loves a good riff on androgyny, and The Kooples is making noise with its line of almost interchangeable men's and womenswear. Parisian shoppers knew a bit what to expect before the recent opening as the store's advertising campaign started over the summer with candid photography of real-life couples à la American Apparel donning the new couple's-based line.

The idea of the new brand created by the Elisha brothers, former designers for Comptoir des Cotonniers, was to establish a new yet familiar concept for a unisex clothing line. Among the black and white interior of the store you'll find clothes for men and women which share similar designs, the same vibe and even same materials—a novel idea following the concept that people in a relationship often share one another's clothes. Think London rocker with a Parisian twist, hardcore and luxurious details at accessible prices.</description_plain>

<description_plain>Founded in 1888 by the same man who founded the Moulin Rouge, Olympia Hall is Paris' oldest music hall and itself an icon of the French capitol.

It is easily recognizable on the outside by the bright red neon lettering on the sign that hangs high above the entrance. The interior, loved for its grandeur and classic red plush seating, was restored to perfection in the late 90s.

Most artists who play the Olympia are of superstar status—i.e. Crosby, Stills and Nash, Diana Krall, Lady Gaga, and Morissey—so tickets are quite pricey.</description_plain>

<description_plain>In French, Jea de paume denotes a game of tennis or a tennis court—which is what this venue's main exhibition space used to house back in the 19th century, when it was constructed during the reign of Napolean III. The contemporary Jeu de Paume is a combination of three associations, the Galerie Nationale du Jeu de Paume, the Centre National de la Photographie, and Patrimoine Photographique. In 2004, these triple forces merged to promote innovative photography and mechanical or electronically created images.

Jeu de Paume exists in several spaces and forms—from the main exhibition space at Concorde, the Hotel de Sully, various traveling exhibitions and the virtual exhibition space located on their website.</description_plain>

<description_plain>Lanvin was founded in 1889 by the then 22-year-old Jeanne Lanvin and until today it remains the oldest fashion house in Paris. Originally the designer became known for her beautiful mother-and-daughter outfits, but very soon she found herself dressing all of the city's elite, who were delighted by her fresh approach to fashion. Lanvin's skillful use of elaborate embellishments and beaded decorations in clear, light, and floral colors made her one of the most influential designers of her time.

Today the famous French luxury house continues in the tradition of the brand under the direction of Alber Elbaz by designing apparel that refuses to adhere to the whims and fancies of current trends, instead aiming to set the benchmark for other fashion houses to aspire to for itself. The 2 flagship stores for 'hommes' and 'femmes'—that were originally designed in the twenties by the famous Albert-Armand Rateau—can still be found at their original addresses on rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré. After more than a century's worth of people passing by, fashionistas are still captivated by the gorgeous robes and smart suits that adorn the shop windows.</description_plain>

<description_plain>Ah, the pinnacle of Parisian sophistication. Thiery Hermès opened his eponymous store in 1837 as a saddle shop in the French capital. It has since evolved to encompass every accessories-loving girl's whimsy: impossibly gorgeous silk-screened scarves, floral perfumes, smart leather wallets and, of course, the ever-coveted Birken bag made infamous with the cat fight in Sex and the City.

The family-owned fashion emporium is now ubiquitous with class world-wide. Its Paris shop is a lair of such luxe treasures, and with a private museum upstairs, caters to a more exhibitionist side that will leave girls gawking over the finely crafted goods and boys, squawking over its prices.</description_plain>

Roosevelt and even the Duke of Windsor, have clinked glasses at "Sank Roo Doe Noo" (that’s the house slogan imitating 5 rue Danou in a bad French accent, ahem).

Their Bloody Marys, French 75s or Sidecars are peerless—as well they should be, as these drink recipes were invented here. Three hundred whiskeys, a lower-level intimate piano bar Ivories—where Gorge Gershwin reputedly composed “American in Paris"—and special events for Thanksgiving and the U.S. Elections offer variety, but there's always an impressive cluster of tourists and bar flies—some of which are official members of the bar’s humorously titled club, International Bar Flies.</description_plain>

      <description_plain>**This venue has closed.

If going out on a weekday night in Paris leads you on a dreaded Oberkampf crawl, hit up Le Paris Paris. It's a blip of a club and the preferred divey hangout of Facehunter kids and Europunk musicians, and their Wednesday night Ullman Cabarock parties are supreme. Seriously tiny, the venue makes for a surprisingly awesome concert space for bands like The Presets. Otherwise, it's best to get on the list, which is easy enough: visit their website to be directed to the person to email or text for the no-cover charge entrance.

Sadly, the management has since changed hands from La Clique (which invested into Le Régine instead), detracting from Le Paris Paris' buzz.</description_plain>

<description_plain>Set in the Rohan wing of Le Musée des Arts Décoratifs, the Musée de la Mode et du Textile houses a whopping 6,000 costumes, 35,000 fashion accessories and 30,000 pieces of textile. No small feat for a fashion museum, we assure you, especially considering the nightmare that is textile conservation.

The museum traces the history of fashion from the regency period to present day, and the important and under-appreciated evolution of textile production from the 7th century onward. Re-envisioned in 1997, the museum also hosts exemplary exhibitions from contemporary French design houses like Dior, Chanel and Sonyia Rykiel, in particular. Consult their website for details concerning current exhibitions.</description_plain>

<description_plain>Perhaps the finest and most complete museum devoted to the French decorative arts, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs highlights the extraordinary talents of craftsman, designs, architects and collectors living and working in France from the Middle Ages to the present. Displayed in chronological order, the museum boasts over 150,000 objects, from 13th-century aquamanile (fancy pitchers) to the intricate commodes of Louis XV's favored ebenistes, or outrageous Art Nouveau wrought-iron confections. Start on the first floor (that's the second floor to Americans) and wind your way up through the ages.

The museum's period rooms are unparalleled, not only for their content, but their innovation. Fashion designer Jeanne Lanvin's art deco residence is re-installed in all its signature purple glory. The positively decadent bed of the 19th century's most luscious (and it would appear, successful) courtesan, Valtesse de la Bigne, occupies a treasured space among more conservative Second Empire suites.

The Musée des Arts Décoratifs occupies an arm of the Louvre. Although it may be tempting to knock them both out in one go, the museum is so rich and large it merits its own day (leisurely) or half-day (speedily).</description_plain>
