The marché aux fleurs is not a high-profile market, nothing like Amsterdam’s “Bloemenmarkt.” There is profusion, variety and eye-catching colours but no exceptional species, nor plants bearing weird-sounding Latin names—only fresh flowers and very knowledgeable florists.

With its quantity of trees (check out the Bonzais), shrubs, seeds, bulbs and even gardening tools, the market offers enough to turn your Parisian pied-a-terre into a greenhouse. The marché aux Fleurs is also an oasis in the heart of the city, preserved from traffic and tourists who flock to the nearby Notre Dame church.

On Sundays, when birds join flowers, the market has the feel of an urban jungle. You’ll find all sorts of bird cages and plenty of seeds.Quote_transparent
