There’s only one common denominator behind the new Marais boutique Precursor: all things British. Owners Laura Parks and Jill Moore, hailing from London, purportedly didn’t speak a lick of French upon arriving in our capital; they decided to spin their love for the Queen and mutual interest in fashion into a concept store instead.

The result is a boutique shop that exclusively carries men’s and women’s contemporary UK brands that are difficult to find in France, like the whimsical Victorian-inspired prints by fellow Brit Dan Hillier. And if additional labels like Antoni + Alison, Farah, Public Beware plus the quirky decoration—more Brick Lane than Covent Garden—aren’t enough to lure you in, consider this: Precursor always has a menagerie of cupcakes, candies and the like free for taking.
