Since 2006, le Chateaubriand has been one of the harbingers of the bistronomie trend rejuvenating the Paris restaurant scene. The magic formula, taken up by many others since, is as follows: a tiny, out of the way restaurant; a talented young chef, 37 year old Inaki Aizpitarte; and a single, fixed-price menu that changes every day.

For 45€ you get five delectable courses, often with an amuse-bouche and other extras thrown in. Because there’s only one menu, it is always fresh, interesting, and exquisitely cooked. Highlights include cod with sweet cabbage and Basque spices, a barely grilled steak with pickled beets, and homemade honey ice cream with mint and baby greens.

The décor is old french bistro—wooden chairs, hanging mirrors, moulding, and beautiful antique light fixtures. It’s a classic style that mingled well with Acne’s spring 2011 men’s collection, which was presented in the restaurant during fashion week. The clientele is a mix of foodies and young creatives, and is becoming increasingly international since word of this little gem has spread. In other words, it’s trendy, so reserve well in advance. Or, if you’ve forgotten and don’t mind a late dinner, show up around 21:30 and hang out at the bar. They don’t take reservations for the second service, and you may just be able to snag a table.Quote_transparent

Warning: you need to book at least two weeks in advance to enjoy the marvellous food of Chef Inaki Aizpitarte. So good it's hard to describe. A bit pricey but perfect for a date.
